abe_hollander
Borrowed Dad's Tammy 18-250 last weekend. And what's up with the zoom not having enough friction to contain itself if tilted downward? I frequently found myself unexpectedly extended. But seriously... has anyone figgered out how to keep it under control?<div></div>

miserere_mei
Abe, remember to add a caption when you submit the photo! You did it with the first one... And please don't post TIFs...
miserere_mei
By the way, I like the shot of the helmet with arms and legs :-)
michael_kuhne
Doesn't that lens have a lock switch to prevent creep?
shots worth sharing
You can lock it in the fully retracted (18mm) position. There's no way to lock it at a length between the extremes--you have to hold it and if you're going to use a tripod, it had better be a level shot. Creepy, huh? shots worth sharing
A dubious distinction but thanks, MM. Since we're on the subject of lens creep, though, my impression is that this is not just an issue with the Tamron super-zoom but fairly common. It's another one of those curious, one would think easily-remedied, things in an industry characterized by incredibly sophisticated technology--things that make you go "Hmmmm" (when you're not going #~@*&^!) abe_hollander
If anyone cares, I checked the TIF file, and it opens fine in PSE 6, but I went over to my Dad's, and he has Quicktime as his default TIF editor, and it opens blue. Weird. Lesson: Don't post TIFs. Got it.
