wpoupore
Subject says it all. I'm considering a used one but the current owner doesn't know how to determine how many exposures. Where should he be looking? Thanks in advance. Bill
alan_chan4
Check the last shot with PhotoME.
wpoupore
Is there a menu on the camera that will give the info? I'm not sure how successful I'll be asking the guy to install some software to check this.
cory_zerkee
Can't you just check the file number of the last picture you took? Assuming they haven't reset the file number count, it should tell you how many pics have been taken.
cory_zerkee
Never mind. Use PhotoME. I just did and it was about 1k higher than my file count. What is the average life span on the shutter in a K10D? I just picked up mine used and PhotoME says the shutter count is 6654.
cory_zerkee
Ah. It just did some hunting. Apparently it is rated at 100,000 shots, but we can expect more in reality. :)
wpoupore
The guy tells me the last photo is 100-337. Does that mean it's taken 100,337 pictures?
wpoupore
I must be blind tonight because I'm looking at a picture in in PhotoME and I can't see where it tells you shutter count.
phule
Bill, I downloaded a couple sample JPG images from the K10D review on dpreview.com. When opened in PhotoME these images show a Shutter Count field. So, it should be there. I don't, however, have access to any K10D RAW files to test. It's possible that the RAW files don't contain the Shutter Count in a field that PhotoME knows about. Of course, if you're not testing with a RAW file then that point is rather moot. phule
Correction. I found sample RAW files here: http://raw.fotosite.pl/index-Pentax_K10D_SMC-FA_35-F2_iso.htm Opened in PhotoME I do see a Shutter Count field for the RAW files as well. cory_zerkee
It seems the shutter count is only displayed in the original jpeg or RAW file. If it has been edited and saved in Photoshop, the shutter count as well as some other info about the camera seems to disappear.

wpoupore
Well the problem with PhotoME not showing how many shots taken was all with the user, ie - Me. I tried looking to see if it showed shots taken with a picture of my own from my old Pentax P&S. Apparently it doesn't include the shots taken info to pass onto PhotoME. When PhotoME doesn't get the shots taken info it doesn't show the total as blank but instead removes it from the list of info it can give, which left me thinking it couldn't do it. Once the guy selling the K10D sent me a sample picture PhotoME had no problem telling me that there had been 554 shots had been taken. Thanks for the help.
