andrew_ng7
I've been looking for a quick release that will work with my Manfrotto 680monopod and the K10D w/grip. The 680 has a fairly wide base and I'd like to tryand maintain that in terms of contact with the grip. I did try one of the manfrotto adapters and plates but with the new lockingdesign they have, it won't clear the base on the monopod and won't tighten allthe way. This is the one I tried: http://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/cache/bypass/pid/3266?livid=107&lsf=107&child=3 The only reason I tried to use that because I have the 390RC2 which uses thesame plate. Should I go with one of the tilting monopod heads that uses the same plate or goin a different direction? I see those hexagonal plate but haven't seen theadapter to go with it. Would rather not use a head as it makes my rig bulkier.I've also seen the longer rectangular plates that say they fit in a hexagonaladapter?? mountainvisions
i'm going to assume you are not mounting the QR plate directly to the head? If so that is the problem. You need a small head, then mount the QR plate to the head, then to the camera.
mountainvisions
Also the rectangular plates work just fine. The hexagonal could be more secure because it has more contact/locking points with a really heavy lens/camera combo in portrait mode. However, I've never had the rectangle plate come loose with fairly large camera setups including K300mm f/4, or 80-200 2.8 and K10D/w grip. andrew_ng7
No, the plate will not be mounted directly.
I want to not use a head 100% of the time but have a quick change adapter on the monopod that will accept a plate.

This is what I have now:

This is what I tried but it wouldn't seat properly:

I wanted to stay with the same plate in the event I got a second body, but I guess I could always go with something else. mountainvisions
i have that plate or a similar plate. Nearly all bogen heads should work. I can't remember what head I have but I just alternate between my tripod and mono pod with the 1 head and QR plate. I have a few camera plates 1 for the long lense, 1 for the K10D, and one spare
walter_degroot
many years ago smith-victor made a "totempod" when you reverded it- turned it upside down, it collapsed it could also be erected by a slicht shake. so one hand operation was possible. renatoa
what about the 234RC tilt head with QR? For me this is the ideal ultimate head for monopods, I don't see any additional need... maybe making a lighter version for digi series.
andrew_ng7
Yes, I may go with that. I went to a local shop today and took a look and that was probably the only one that will work for me. Just would like to see the base of the 234RC a little wider so as it is as big as the platform on the monopod. It's about half the size. Will look a bit odd.
