brucecahn
I just caught a few minutes of it on cable. She becomes involved with a guy who is covered with fur, sort of like Beauty and the Beast by Cocteau. Didn't see any photography. Does anyone know how it ends? bobatkins
I've seen it. It's very much a fictional fairy-tale type story based on some aspects of Arbus' life rather than any attempt at an accurate biographic portrait. It doesn't feature much photography at all. It's OK, but I don't think it will win any prizes.

michaelchristensen
Fur is fiction and entertainment. You want to learn about Diane Arbus, look at her body of work, and read the unauthorized biography, Diane Arbus by Patricia Bosworth (Borders).. The movie does little to Arbus' credit .. although it parallels her state-of-mind in spots. The only thing I found interesting were the scenes of the actress using a Rolleiflex .. Arbus was a complex personality, overflowing with intelligence, art and creativity .. personal life a total mess .. corrupted by the 1960s (some would say) .. and yet, the passion with which she approached her subjects is an interesting read .. in real life she was married to the actor (Sidney) who played a psychiatrist in the long running MASH series .. a comedy of Korean war fame .. the book by Bosworth is an interesting read into the mind "DeAnn" ... from a psychological, spirtual, and intellectual standpoint .. and to think it all began from work as a wedding photographer .. Read the book first .. watch the film .. and be inspired, shocked, and afraid ... Her work cannot be copied, and seldom has anyone achieved similar adulation .. It should make one very counscious of stepping beyond the bondaries of society .. as the strange can sometimes seduce. Don't expect a "they lived happily ever after ending." gsphotoguy
The movie is available on DVD. It is, at some level, based on the Patricia Bosworth unauthorized biography. If you read that book and the family authorized biography in the Diane Arbus: Revelations book you will learn a lot about her. The latter includes photographs that the family did not allow in the Bosworth book.
dan_smith26
Very disappointing. I was hoping for a film about Diane Arbus, the photographer. It was a waste of the $0.99 to rent it.
