michael s.
Image posting -- two different ways to do it. 1. From your hard drive, a photo must be no more than 511 wide (can be 511 right on the nose) and you must include a caption. The caption can be anything, but cannot be left blank. - or - 2. From a photo.net gallery or another site that hosts your photos, type the following: (i)

(ii) Select "HTML" from the drop-down menu before you Submit (iii) You'll see a preview of your photo as it will appear. No preview = no good. (iv) Assuming all is ok, you Confirm. Even a linked image, while it can be wider than 511, should be kept to a reasonable dimensions so that viewers don't have to scroll. And in every case you're aiming for an overall file size in the 100k range.
michael_kuhne
Thanks for the info, Michael. I have this film photo already scanned into a folder. It is stored as a TIF image, and is 108MB 7600 x 5008 size. That is all it tells me. To resize it, do I copy it to another folder, and somehow reduce it in the process for use in posting? michael s.
Not sure what you're using as a photo editor, Michael, but yes, make a copy for safety's sake. Again this depends upon what you're using, but a number of the programs have a "Save for Web" action. Not my favorite, but it'll do the trick. Convert the copy to a jpeg (the lossless tiff is a much 'heavier' file) and resize for posting. If you'll be posting from your hard drive (vs. a pnet gallery or another site) then resize so that it's no wider than 511 pixels. Once you get the hang of it, it'll become second nature. ronniedee
I had K100D couple of moths ago, but i sold it and bought K10D. I like K10D better, but was a bit disappointed in noise at ISO 1600. K100D works much better. So i'm waiting to see some reviews and sample pictures from K20D.
shots worth sharing
Well, I ordered the k10d from Beach today (two, in fact--one for my son who seems to have been inspired by the fun I've been having.) I'm gonna hold on to the k100 though: I'm sure there'll be times when it's just the ticket
14mm 2.8l
Good for you Dave. Smart move buying a spare for your son too. There was a time when the wife and I would go places to shoot film. I'd shoot she'd be very supportive of me and all my crazy heavy brass body Canon F-1s and metal and glass lenses. Then a few years ago I bought her a ZX-L film body because I thought it would fit her well and then over time we evolved to each having our own K Mount dslrs. It sure is fun to split the pentax lens load and get images from our own perspectives. She loves her K-A 105mm 2.5 macro and SMA-A 50mm 2.8 macro for incredibly detailed images that push infinity focus far more often than true macro flower pix whereas I pick up the same scenes with AF 14mm 2.8 and FA 80-320mm 5.6 and SMC-A 400mm 5.6 and all the teleconverters pentax made. I completed the converter set recently with 1.4X-L ;^) Vignettes the 400mm 5.6 on film but super perfect on digital and a fine bonus for bellows use too. So when we zip about national parks and state parks I capture the Long and the Wide and she gets all the Details that only a super well corrected Macro lens pair provides. Her images blow me away. I haven't completely decided against a pair of K10D as we typically use slowest iso settings on our 6mp samsungs, so iso 800+ noise issues would not cause us grief if we got K10D to replace the 6mp pair. K10D is a fantastic camera from specs and users reviews I've read. You got a heck of a deal as many paid a bit less for one K10D body and you got two. shots worth sharing
Thanks, Lindy. I dunno know about the lens swapping--seeing as how I'm the one with all the good glass right now (but that could change.) ;>)

michael_kuhne
It says a lot for Pentax value when one family can buy two professional build camera bodies of that caliber, and with such unique features, since the price is so reasonable. Wait until you gain use of the fast, super-efficient Pentax Hyper system of operation. Photozone review characterized it in terms of simplicity itself and a stroke of genius. thebs
Wow! The K10D is only $509 now? Wow! BeachCamera.COM (BuyDig.COM) is where I've bought 100% of my new Pentax equipment -- K100D, DA 50-200, DA 16-45 and DA 10-17 FE -- all US warranty with full rebates honored (typically within 4-5 weeks, even the new rebate processing companY0. I'm kinda glad I bought my K100D when I did, because I got $100 rebates on each the DA 50-200 ($219 - $100), DA 16-45 ($359 - $100) and DA 10-17 FE ($399 - $100), close or cheaper than the current price even before $100 rebates on each. Now that football season is over, and I have less reason to upgrade, I'm waiting until summer to upgrade myself. So I can wait on the new announcements and prices to fall further. My wife gets my K100D (she used it for the first time here in Memphis), although I need to get a superzoom for her. I just hope the Pentax DA 16.5-135 comes out (if there is to be one) by summer, or I'll have to choose between the Sigma DC 18-125 or Pentax DA 18-250. I'll probably do the latter unless the IQ really stinks.
mcmanamey
And boy can I ditto one family buying 2 of the same camera! We picked up our first K10 right at a year ago, because we HAD to have a good DSLR. Within a couple months, the price drop was significant enough we got the 2nd one. We only have 1 lens in common between us - fortunately, our styles are different enough we don't usually want the same lens at the same time. Otherwise, there's two of everything in the camera bags - same flash, same stroboframe, etc. because you just can't be arguing over who gets which piece of equipment. shots worth sharing
I should probably clarify that my son is in his forties and has a household of his own three/four miles down the road so the equipment sharing will probably be limited (to my Limiteds? ;>) I put the k100d kit lens in his Christmas stocking and advised him to pick up the smc P-FA 50mm F1.4 as a starter prime. I'll also say that I was really pleased that he decided on the k10d. Although new to dslr world, he's a very tech-savvy guy who does a lot of research before he buys anything so I took the fact that he settled on the k10d as the best choice as a endorsement of my decision to go Pentax. For now, I'm kind of enjoying being "expert" as he gets oriented but in truth I'm expecting he'll be showing me all sorts of neat stuff in terms of camera functionality and technique (and maybe even post-processing) in the not-too-distant future. This should be great fun! But, yeah, getting two of these bodies at that price is amazing--it almost makes you think in terms of a six-pack! The only snag may be in applying for the rebates (since we'll only have one invoice) but I'm sure we can work that out. Thanks to you all for the reassurance. Happy new year and may the impending announcement fulfill and exceed expectations!

michael_kuhne
Say Dave, here's a tip from a long-time PZ-1p shooter. Upon using the Hyper system in manual mode- you hit the instant-set green button. Then if you want to change aperture or shutter speed, hit the AE-L button first. If you are changing aperture, the shutter speed will follow along automatically. If changing shutter speed, aperture will follow. On my old camera, this does not work well in very low light. Otherwise, it adds to the Hyper efficiency. I refer to it as tandem shift.
shots worth sharing
Thanks, Michael. I can see it's going to take a bit to get up to speed with the hyper system. That's where having my son as a partner in this is really going to pay off.
