blumesan
I am trying to understand how the Nikon DR-4 Right Angle Finder may be used with Nikon cameras having a rectangular eyepiece (e.g. D200). The text quoted below can be found on almost all sites (retailers) offering the DR-4 for sale. The last sentence is important. It suggests (to me) that the DR-4 can be directly attached to the cat. #2370 without the need for other parts (excepting perhaps the DK-12 eyepiece adapter which is included with the DR-4). I have contacted all of the retailers and not one could confirm this. So I turn to you for help. The Nikon catalog #2370 is a rectangular adapter that attaches directly to the rectangular eyepiece of the camera. It has a 19mm female thread for the attachment of accessories. It is this fact that leads to my confusion. The quoted text states that a DK-13 eyepiece adapter is required for specified cameras, all of which are those with a 19mm round non-high eyepoint viewing eyepiece thread. I am puzzled as to why an adapter is required for connection to these cameras (19mm female thread) but no adapter is required for connection to the #2370 (also 19mm female thread). TEXT: "Includes: DK-12 Eyepiece Adapter. Fits F5, F4s, F3HP, F100, N90, & 8008 cameras. Requires a DK-13 Eyepiece adapter for the following cameras: F, F2, F3, FA, FE2, FM2, FE, FM, EL2, EL, ELW. Together with Nikon catalog #2370, it can be used with The N60, N65, N70, N80 & Pronea S cameras as well."
alan_olander1664878205
Not quite understanding what you're asking, but the DK-12 is attached to the DR-4 when using it with cameras with HP finders. The DK-12 is removed and replaced with the DK-13 when using the DR-4 with cameras with 19mm finders. The threaded side of the #2730 is attached to the DK-13 and the other side slipped over the rectangular eyepiece on the camera.
User_276104
You're absolutely right about this being confusing. Nikon really made using (or at least purchasing) a right angle finder difficult. Back when the DR-3 was the only one, it came equipped to thread into an FM/FE/FA-type body, and you only needed an adapter for larger F-series bodies (DK-7) or the 2370 rectangular adapter. Piece of cake.
rf1
Hi. I just bought the DR-4 RAF and it is beautiful. Works great on the D200. You will need an eyepiece adapter which is available @ BH for around $4.00. I found the info simply by searching. Nikon EYEPIECE ADAPT f/N2-4-5-6000 SER/FM10 - NIEPAN6006 Hope this helps. BTW - Cameta has the DR4 on Eboy!
blumesan
Thanks for responding, guys. Not much help yet. Alan suggests that I will need a DK-13 adapter. Ali doesn't mention adapters other than the rectangular adapter (#2370) which I already have in hand.
rf1
Try it with the rectangular adapter. Unless I am missing something...it seems to work great for me. Not sure what you call it but I did have to remove a larger threaded adapter from the DR4. Once I did that the DR4 screwed right into the rectangular adapter w/o problems. If you buy from Cameta - they will gladly take returns.
