jim_norman4
My lab in Ft. Lauderdale just isn't doing the volume (or the quality) it used to anymore. I'm looking for recommendations for a lab, understanding that I'll have to ship my film. Some friends have recommended Modernage and Duggal in New York. I'd be curious as to what others think about these two labs and any other recommendations. If it's not in South Florida, it can be anywhere. Thanks, Jim. anthony_valvo
Modernage is excellent. I use them when I'm in NYC. Otherwise, I use the Slideprinter (Slideprinter.com), which is very convenient for mail order and reasonable. Anthony
paulr
Try either of these two: http://www.pcraft.com/table_of_contents.html Or http://www.dwaynesphoto.com/ I send Kodachrome to Dwaynes and they do exceptional work. Also I have noticed Fuji mailers are being sent to Dwaynes. For E6 B&H in NYC has Fuji mailers for about five bucks. Not bad for E6 these days. I've used WalMart for C41. I know..............but the work was ok. Heard of others using Walgreens with satisfaction. Try a few rolls and see what happens.
JDMvW
I use Walgreens for test rolls when I need them in a hurry. The quality varies, but is usually not that good at my local store. I'm sure it varies enormously from store to store. the attached photo was done by them. The fuzziness is the result of a pretty dirty Kodak Retina, but the scratches and flecks are all Walgreens.<div></div>
jim_norman4
I probably should have mentioned that my primary format is 4x5. I also do some 8x10. I'm finding that most labs these days are not doing sheet film. Jim
jlkphoto
Bay Photo Lab still does E-6 and C-41 sheet film: http://www.bayphoto.com/bayweb/pro_opticalservices.htm Calypso does E-6 sheet film: http://www.calypsoinc.com/calypso/e6.php Both these labs do excellent work. justinblack
Try Calypso or Photocraft for E-6. I use A&I for C-41. Black & White in Arlington, VA is fantastic for custom B&W developing. http://www.calypsoinc.com http://www.pcraft.com http://www.aandi.com http://www.blackwhitelab.com

john_castronovo
If you're driven to use a lab in another state, I shamelessly suggest my own lab in North Jersey. After over 30 years in the business, we still do dip and dunk QLab processing of E6 film up to 8x10 on a two hour basis and C41 and B&W as a same day service. We even do traditional RA4 type 'c' printing as well as silver B&W and even fiber base B&W printing. Of course we also have a full range of digital services including much sought after fluid mounted drum scans, Betterlight scans and fine art inkjet printing. Our steady customers have always told us that we're comparable to Duggal or Modernage, but being smaller and more accessible, we're attentive to their needs. jeff_z.
Jim, I came across this full service, pro lab in Bethlehem, Pa. a few years ago, and was very impressed with great results from both E-6 and C-41. A friend who lives near them, a very experienced photographer, also is very satisfied. They also have their own mailers that they will send you. It's a family run operation; I think the father is a retired news photographer. http://www.vipphotolab.com/
