anthony_chapa
Can someone please post some pics of its high noise capabilities. From what I have heard, its quite good from 800-3200. Also, I would like to see how different the default sharpness and mid/high sharpness applied on an image. If noone here has samples do you know where I can find some like described above? My 40D is on its way! Thanks!

bobatkins
I have noise samples at http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/canon_eos_40D_review_3.html I'd save sharpening for PhotoShop or some other external image editor where you have more control. danny d
The 40D handles noise quite well.. As with any digital camera, the more shadows within the image and more noise is introduced. I know the image seems like the lightig was good (it was jsut very limited.) I really pushed the camera and lens to the limits, Camera 40D Lens 85mm 1.8 ISO 3200 Shutter 1/80 Fstop 1.8 http://www.photo.net/photo/6463722&size=lg
jimstrutz
I shot a whole wedding the other day at 800 ISO except for a few shots at 1600. Later I forgot which ones those were, and I couldn't tell from looking either. I know I could find them from the EXIF data, but who cares? They all look good. I did not under expose them though. The reviews I've read say that the noise is about the same as the 20D/30D, and I can see that when I pixel peep, but I don't see it in the prints. The 20D was pretty good, but I like the way the 40D does it better.
PuppyDigs
Noise may be the same as the 20D at pixel view. However you need less "enlargement" to create the same size print, so less noise artifacts will be apparent. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
wes_baker1
I could sometimes see structure in the noise pattern on my 20D. People call it "banding." That seems to be completely gone in my 40D. As far as I'm concerned, that's a giant improvement.
