Zeiss Sonnar 50/1.5 for Nikon rangefinder - confirmed

There IS an official page on this lens from Cosina Japan, who

manufacture the latest generation of Zeiss rangefinder lenses in partnership

with CZ. The announcement is here:

http://www.cosina.co.jp/seihin/co/s-50limited/index.html

Google Translate seems to make a reasonable stab at this:

http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cosina.co.jp%2Fseihin%2Fco%2Fs-50limited%2Findex.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8

My translation of Google's translation is that these limited edition lenses will

start shipping in March 2008, from orders placed before the end of this year at

105,000 JPY ($910 USD). I'm guessing this production is intended for the

Japanese market, so we might not see a broader announcement than this. Can any

Japanese readers provide further insights?

Richard, AFAIK, the expressed scepticism was against a purported Nikon digital range finder camera (at least that is why I posted what I posted).

<p>

The announced Cosina lens is already offered in Leica M mount and the new S-mount lens is a limited edition (translates to a small run)lens.

It is my policy to delete all speculative threads about (future) products, unless the information comes directly from Nikon or, for 3rd-party bodies (e.g. Fuji DSLRs with Nikon F mount) and 3rd-party lenses, the individual manufacturers such as Sigma, Tokina, Tamron, Zeiss/Cosina, etc.

It is not my job to determine which rumor is true or not. Obviously some of them will eventually turn out to be true, perhaps after several months, but the majority of them don't. Therefore, if you can find a source that goes back to Cosina as in this case, we can have a discussion.

The previous thread was mainly speculation about whether Nikon would introduce a digital rangefinder with interchangable lenses, similar to the Leica M8. Again, we'll discuss it when Nikon announces such a camera, if ever.
