ben_long
I'm thinking of upgrading from my old Calumet monorail 4x5. It does not have a graflock back so I can't use instant pack holders, plus I'd like a bit more precision if possible.
Most of the shooting would be studio table-top close up, maybe a little portraiture, probably no field or architecture. Geared focus is desired; the Sinar has it on the back standard if I'm not mistaken, and so does the Toyo.
Has anyone used both of these particular models and can comment if they preferred one or the other or can offer pro/ con opinions? I'm looking at used models; (others, like Sinar X or Cambo Ultima look great but are out of budget), so I've tentatively narrowed it down to the G and C.
Thanks! erie_patsellis
Ben, as a long time Sinar user and now a Toyo user, my first preference would be the Sinar. For tabletop work, the C would work, while you scrounge up a P rear standard, essentially making it a 4x5 P. erie
ellis_vener_photography
A Sinar c has the rear function carrier of the P, it uses the front standard of the Sinar F or F2 (depending on how old the C is) I agree with Erie, however in the choice of the Sinar C over the Toyo G. The Sinar's yaw free tilt and swings and the built in Tilt/Swing and depth of field calculator are the really big reasons, especially for table top work. ben_long
Thanks Erie and Ellis for your views. I think I'll be looking for a Sinar now.
