tisbone
hi. I'm trying to figure out the cost of fixing an 80-200/2.8 ed-if lens, that back focuses only over 135mm. (is this as easily fixed as 'normal' back focusing? it's probably some mechanical failure, not just miscalibration..) I wonder if anyone had a similar thing fixed either by nikon or some other service. I need to know the cost to decide wheather I want to return it or not - the eBay seller is willing to give me a refund, but it also takes a lot of trust to just send it back and wait for the money... I posted a similar thread before, but didn't have much luck with the replies.. And yes, I've tested it on several bodies. I'd apprecciate your help. timberwulf
Do you have an example of an image to show us to help with getting answers? :)
ellis_vener_photography
Without actually handling the lens I suspect that it only needs a good cleaning of the focusing mechanism. Not necessarily cheap but probably substantially less than a new lens. Of course it could also be something in your camera's AF system that needs cleaning or a checkup, may be there is a little play in there that shows up with this size lens. Have you tried it on a second body?
