Monaco EZcolor and the Monaco OPTIX colorimeter still useful?

I have the above calibration hardware and software. It's an old version (1.0,

I think). I am waiting for delivery of a new LCD monitor (NEC 2090UXi) and I

want to know if I still need to buy the X-Rite Eye One Display 2 (which I was

all set to do), or, is what I have still useful. Would I just need to update

the current version, or has the hardware (and LCD's) evolved so much in the

last couple of years that I should invest in a new calibration system?

For the price they are charging for the OPTIX colorimeter I would try calibrating my monitor with the old version first, or try calling X-rite.

I have been using my using my 4 year old Monaco OptixXR (X-Rite DTP 94) with SpectraView II on my NEC MultiSync LCD2190UXi for the past 9 months with excellent results.
