kariann
What do you pay for your photo assistants? I had a friend help me the day of the wedding. She was with me for about 7 hours working plus our travel time. I only charge $895 for the wedding pictures. Do you pay a percentage or per hour? I've always just had a friend help me and paid them something. She took pictures-mostly candids of what I was shooting-and I am using some of her pictures in the proof album. Also, would you put her name on the copyright or mine? Thanks. Kari
ellis_vener_photography
$125-250 per day. your name.also put in writing that he or she was doing work for hire on your contract and the copy of the paid invoice you return to the assistant with the check. greg jansen
Hourly is good, becuse times can vary. Establish it before the shoot. If it is a short event, say 4 hours, maybe give a bit more than the hourly to make up for the hassle factor. Long drive, a bit more for gas money. Your studio name on the images. Assistant needs to sign an independant contractor form before shooting. One the stipulates your studio owns all the rights to the images. Your studio then transfers the rights to the client (if you do that).
savagesax
Agree with Ellis and Greg. Seems to e the going rate here in LA. Hourly rates are nice.
keithdunlop
I have a regular assistant that I pay $250.00 per day ( we don't do hourly shoots - every wedding is an all day gig), plus I also give him a small percentage of print sales on his pictures to provide a back-end incentive. When he comes with me to bridal fairs he gets $35.00 an hour. As others have stated, your name goes on all the images and you should have a written agreement about "work for hire" and that all copyrights are owned by you.
