Brad_
>>>> I know that you can slap external hard drives on there with Firewire, but Firewire 400 isn't as fast as putting a serial ATA drive in the case. The 24" iMac is FW-800. Fast enough to keep up. But again, as I said earlier, it's really about the OS - the user experience and how it compliments, rather than fights, with what you want to do... www.citysnaps.net
kaiyen
I stand corrected on the external HD options on the iMac. I didn't realize they added FW800 to the 24" model. allan
jacob_brown
What the top iMacs need is Serial ATA connectivity for serious speed and storage like in the Mac Pro units. http://www.serialata.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA
t_n1
Last I checked, the iMacs are still running off of laptop CPUs (merom). So I am unsure why folks say that the PC is similarly priced to the iMac. For the same amount of money, you're getting a stronger CPU in the PC. I have nothing against iMacs, but it really depends on whether you're budget-minded and your willingness to use a new operating system.
Uhooru
The new 20" iMac also has FW 800 as well. The screen on the 24, is a better screen for calibration purposes according to a few reviews. They'r nice machines though I prefer my matt screen better on my 24. The performance on them is fabulous.
