john_boyle3
I'm a Leica photographer and all of my equimment is 35mm. I've had several slides scanned onto cds as 24 and 39 mb bitmaps. I live in the country and only have dialup. The only digital software that I have is that which came with XP, and HP Photosmart Essential 1.9 that came with my printer. Given these limitations is there any way that I can change the large bitmap files to smaller jpeg files to post on the Leica forum? Thanks for your help. phule
http://picasa.google.com/ A 6MB download that would probably be worth the time. You can export an image to a specific max dimension.
rainer_t
I would believe that the HP tool you use should allow to store an image in jpg-format as well. But if that's not the case ... google for irfanview ... great little program, that reads-in almost all fileformats and is able to write-out most. don_cooper
Microsoft has an image resizer that might be what you're looking for. After you download and install it,you'll need only to right click on a file through windows explorer and select a file size that suits what you're trying to do. It then saves the file as a JPG at the reduced size. - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
john_boyle3
Rob, Rainer and Don - many thanks for your kind and informative replies. Tony - in my case it simply means that I use a Leica M2, M4 or Leicaflex SL to take pictures. I have no digital cameras.
mendel_leisk
ACDSee is worth looking into as well, though it's somewhere between $50 and $100 to register, for format conversion, resampling, etc. One concern: tiff format is more widely accepted as being the lossless, full resolution format to use, as compared to bitmap. To be honest, I don't know in detail why ;)
