iancoxleigh
I was scrolling through the critique forum today and noticed that a whole host of photos had nearly a dozen ratings from 'new members' and only a few regular ratings. This seems quite odd. Just FYI.
root
Yes it does. That's what I got too. What happens is that the database thinks that the image has more than it's share of rates and puts it further back in the queue so that it doesn't get the minimum number of qualifying rates to appear on the default TRP. I promise you, it won't get fixed.
Michael R Freeman
Finally, of the ratings listed, 11 (12) are from new members. As a measure against abuse ...
Maybe the shit disturbers are trying to re-establish deleted bogus bot accounts? Just about every photo that has been in the critique forum for even a few minutes today has the above statement in the ratings summary.
Michael R Freeman
Definitely a bot at work I think. I just checked the most recent upload posted by a member (displayed at http://www.photo.net/gallery before it even shows on the critique forum page). It almost instantly had ratings from "11 new members".
iancoxleigh
"Maybe the shit disturbers are trying to re-establish deleted bogus bot accounts?" That's what I had thought -- given, especially, that several accounts were deleted just yesterday (or the day before -- read some post somewhere). gungajim
If only rate fraud detection software was as ruthlessly efficient as the ad serving software!
lizweisiger
I'm confused: since all ratings are anonymous, how can Ian determine the ratings were from new members as opposed to regulars?
Michael R Freeman
There is a statement in the ratings summary, part of which I posted above ...

bobatkins
Yup. I just checked for bogus accounts. I count 11 registered in the last day or so. They will be dealt with shortly. Josh - check your email...

joshroot
All have been removed. At least all that I saw. Let me know if anyone sees any more.
darius.tulbure
There are better solutions for this kind of problems, other than hunting all day those "anonymous I can do whatever I want".
root
I agree. We're only catching the obvious high volume ones.
joshroot
Gentlemen, I have to start somewhere.
root
Josh, my point is that I don't think it's possible to identify most of the low volume ones, pretty much by definition.
joshroot
That is true. Although they also do not cause as much trouble overall.
