robert_meyers
Hey all, I am having an insane problem. I am trying to scan a LOT of negatives. Now the scans are coming out perfect, using the Kami scanning fluid? but the fluid eats the handles of the holder of the wet bed attachment for my Epson V750-m. So? I would like to find something that isn?t closely related to gasoline (the Kami fluid), to mount my photos for scanning? Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks all! digitmstr
Aren't your handles metal? If by "wet bed" you mean the Fluid Mount Adapter, its handles are metal, not plastic.
ellis_vener_photography
try the mounting fluids from http://www.scanscience.com/ instead. But it sounds like youare using way too much fluid. Giampi: Robert is referring to the plastic frame around the mounting tray glass. This is a known (but rare) problem.
upscan
Robert: Others have reported and confirmed your findings and these are explained in http://www.wetmounting.com/Fluids.html Also, using the scanner's tray lessens the benefits of fluid scanning due to the additional refraction from the chunk of thick glass which is interposed between the image and the sensors. As you are scanning lots of negatives it would be worthwhile looking for better and safer ways.
ellis_vener_photography
Athough he was too shy to mention it, Julio Fernandez is the principle of scanscience.com
robert_meyers
As to using too much fluid... not really. None of the fluid has ever gotten onto the mount adapter. However we have so far scanned several hundred negatives. I believe it is the darn noxious fumes eating the plastic. The handles always end up tearing out. I am on the second fluid mount. And it is dying.
jtk
Wow! Julio's cup test is terrifying! No wonder scan technicians die young!
