derek_thornton
I have seen it mentioned several times here that you can rent lenses. Who does this? I live in SC, does anyone know who will rent lenses in my area? Also, how much does it cost to rent a 500mm/600mm for a week? Thanks,
ShunCheung
This one is not in your area, but it'll give you an idea about rental costs: http://www.kandsphoto.com/pdf_files/rental/rental_brochure.pdf They have a separate list for DSLRs. I have seen places with weekly rates that are only 3 to 4 times the daily rate. And some places would ship the rental item to you.
ellis_vener_photography
PPR in Altanta rents Nikon lenses. Whether that is close enough to you is a different story. http://www.ppratlanta.com/cameras.php Their rates are pretty standard. A Nikon 400mmf/2.8, 500mm f/4 or 600mm f/4 rents for $80-100 per day depending on the lens and a week is billed as either 3 or 4 days. You have to fill out their renters application card be approved and either be able to furnish proof of insurance or have enough room on your credit card to cover the MSRP of the lens which could range from $9,000 -$12,
bwcombs
There are several online sources now, among them these: www.ziplens.com www.lensprotogo.com www.photolensrental.com
keith_leonin
www.calumetphoto.com A 600mm/4 goes for $85/day or $255/week. The nice thing about Calumet (and I don't know if this is true for other stores) is that if you're near one of their stores, you can pick up a lens on a Friday afternoon, then return it Monday morning, and it only counts as one day.
