How to check whether a film has been exposed to light or not?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just bought two Watson bulk film loaders, one with some TX leftover inside. Is

there any quick way to check whether it has been exposed to light (other than

taking some shots and developing it fully)?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Shakil

You could develop a roll without shooting on it (pull some out and put into a cassette in the dark). If its blank its probably still good. There's really no other way without developing the film to find out if its bad.

I recently got the same thing I took out about 3 feet put it in a tank and gave it 3+3 in Diafine this also let me check for fog. the film turned out to be good but it was not Tri-X because the edge markings were Plus-X but hey film is film.

In a sophisticated lab it is possible to detect a latent image by measuring conductivity differences. This is about 1/10 as sensitive as developing and 50,000 times as expensive. Many substances respond to light exposure (including plywood) but the great advantage of silver halide is the 1,000,000,000 times amplification that occurs with development.
