sfdgs
I am shooting for a model's portfolio this afternoon and it is extremely overcast outside. She is wanting film rather than digital. I have the B/W covered, but would I be better off using Portra VC with the overcast conditions? I usually use Portra NC, but I feel I will need a contrast boost. The model has blondish red hair and a fair complexion. Any suggestions?
anthony johns
If worst comes to worst you could shoot half nc, half vc.
jerry_kirkwood
Well I guess your shoot's over by now, but FWIW I would only use NC if the intent was to scan them. You can always bump the contrast up in post, but you can't pull detail out of shadows that doesn't make it through the scanner.
sfdgs
Thanks guys. I'm on my way out the door now and am going to take my chances with the NC. Mostly everything will be B/W, so the color shots aren't the most important, but I want to get the best of everything I can. Thanks again.
russ_butner___portland__or
Jason Sorry I caught your thread too late to reply. In overcast conditions, I always go with the VC version. Actually, I did that just earlier today, do to overcast conditions. Let me know how the NC worked out. ThanksRuss
sfdgs
Russ, I should have gone with the VC. The color images came out very flat. All she really needed was the black and whites, but in a situation like that again, I know which film to use. Thanks, Jason
