alan_wilder1
Reading 'Nikkor-The 1001 Nights', it was mentioned with the AI Nikkor 105/2.5S (Ai-S?)that a 'Super Integrated Coating' was used. Is this hype and if not, how is it different than the typical NIC "green/magenta" appearance that I see on my Ai-S version that must be about 10+ years old. roland_vink
According to a Nikon lens sales brochure, Super Intergrated Coating (SIC - not the best acronym!) reduces reflections over a wider wavelength range and has superior color balance. I presume that is compared to the older Nikon Integrated Coating (NIC). The newer coating tends to be a muted yellow-green or orange-green color, compared to the pure green, red and blue coatings. Super intergrated coatings was first applied to lenses around 2001, give or take a year. I guess SIC is a small improvement, but NIC was already one of the best coatings around. alan_wilder1
Thanks Roland, I've noticed a shift in the colors of the coatings as you described but it's not always obvious with some of the MF lenses like the 105/2.5 Ai-S. The SIC seems more identifiable with the AFD series of lenses.
