thomas_k.
Hi: I recently purchased a Busch Pressman 4x5 camera model D. I decided to replace an old ektar it came with, with a modern lens. I just got a Caltar II-n 150mm lens in copal #0 shutter. After removing the old ektar I discovered that my lensboard opening is to large for the caltar. The opening is 40mm in diameter - larger then #0 and smaller then #1. Are all original Busch Pressman lensboards like mine? Should I buy another board or have one custom made? Any sources of Busch Pressman boards except auction site? Will greatly apreciate any info from Busch Pressman owners. Thomas.
michael_gilday
The old Supermatic and Flash Supermatic shutters were decidedly non-standard, hence your difficulty. Obviously, it depends on the shutter, which depends, a little bit, on when your Pressman was made. As far as lensboards, there are two types I know of, and quite possible others - a plain boring one frequently made of wood or masonite, and a fairly involved almost-quick-change one made of metal, with a sort of "ear" on the rear side. Midwest Photo has the latter, usually; I believe the craftsman who makes 'em for them frequents this forum. The other type shouldn't be too difficult to have manufactured, or even do yourself. In a pinch, since you're trying to go from a larger opening to a smaller one, it wouldn't be too hard to adapt something to your existing lensboard... jeff bishop
Email me. (Your email address wasn't an option when I clicked your name). I've got homemade "un-drilled" lens boards I made for myself. I can mail you one if you want. This way you can put whatever size hole in it you want.
wes_baker1
Busch made the metal boards with several different sized openings, including the common sizes, though they'll be hard to find now. But don't be afraid of using the newly cobbled up ones. It's a pretty stable system with either type.
