coolscan IV on a macbook

I'm planning to get a film scanner.

 

Anyone know if the Nikon coolscan IV works on a intel macbook pro (thats a

laptop....)

 

 

If not, then what scanners are suitable for using with a laptop?

It should work fine. Nikon's scanning software is a problem. I use SilverFast Ai 6.5.5 Studio instead.

That software sells for around $200, is it necessary for the scanner to work with a macbook?

I don't know about NikonScan or SilverFast Ai. I use VueScan to drive the Nikon Coolscan IV

ED. It is 100% compatible with Apple's PowerPC and Intel based systems and doesn't require

any installation of Nikon's software. The pro version of VueScan costs $80.

Ellis, can you briefly comment on why you like SilverFast better?

Scanner should work, but I would recommend VueScan. I just bought the book "Scanning

Negatives and Slides" by Sascha Steinhoff, covering the Nikon Scanners. Excellent book --

and comes with a DVD with all the scanning software on it (VueScan, Silverfast...).

Are these demos or licensed versions of the software? Just asking since the book costs $29
