niall_church
I have a used cantact printer but, the foam inserts need replacing! What type of foam should I look for!
tripanfal
Not sure where to get thin sheets of black foam, and if you can't find it either I'll bet black felt would do the trick.
don_mckeith
For most jobs I use sheets of 2mm black foam , which can be found at craft stores----AC Moore,Michaels, etc. (maybe even Walmart)---fabric stores like Joannes, which also have craft supplies,---have the foam, felt and black velvet ribbon. niall_church
I suppose the question I'm asking is if it is a special soft foam! This stuff feel very soft for some reason!
frank.schifano
Yes, it is supposed to be like that. Find something that is as close to the density and thickness of the existing foam and it will work out ok. It helps keep the paper and negatives in close contact. I refinished mine with a material that is a bit more dense and a bit thicker than the original and it still works ok, but I find that I need to clamp the lid down tightly with a bulldog clamp for good contact. tim_delorto
I had the exact same thing happen to my Paterson contact printer. I got a piece of 1/4" foam rubber from the craft store, which was yellowish. Since I couldn't find any in black, I bought a package of black Rit dye and dyed it. Cut it with a straight edge and razor knife, glue it on, and you're done. It looks as good as new.
don_mckeith
Yup, I know the type of foam you're talking about-- go to a fabric store and get a peice of black"headliner" which will probably have dark grey foam.
niall_church
I'm in Ireland so what is Headliner!
don_mckeith
Sorry about that Niall--- "headliner" is a foam backed fabric that lines the inside of the roof of a car( at least it is ,over here in the states)---I,m not sure where you can find this in Ireland.Maybe a fabric store,or auto parts or auto body shop.
