A recently scanned shot of the post office near work.

Minox EC, T-Max 400, Caffenol dev, 30 min, (Coffee and Soda crystals, recipe on

Digitaltruth.com)

I really love the way the combination of high speed film and the relatively low

contrast dev makes this look very olde worlde, shame about the modern car :(

Thanks,

Mike

The Dev recipe is called Caffenol, there are three derivatives two using pretty much the same ingredients in differing quantities.

Essentially it's 8oz (US) of water, (i mixed at 24 C), 4 teaspoons of soda crystals, (not sure what they're called in the US but I know that Arm and Hammer are a popular brand, basically they're generally found in the supermarket in the washing detergent section.

Then 2 teaspoons of instant coffee granules, (recipe states Folgers but we don't have that in the UK, I used Tesco dark roast, another guy on the B&W dev forum used Nescafe Cap Colombie, (he has posher negs than me) :)

So, 4 x tsp Soda crystals, 2 tsp instant coffee and 8oz water, dev for 30 min, stop and fix as normal, (i added a wash before the stop as I didn't want to kill the stop after one use with coffee, I guess it'd still work but you wouldn't be able to see the stain to tell you when it's exhausted).

So there you go, have a bash, it's worth a roll just for the OMG i just developed a film in coffee factor :)

Be sure to post your results.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, once mixed you won't want to be inhaling it, especially if you have a hangover, it smells like month old greasy fry pan, not too strong though so you can do it in your kitchen without creating too much anger.

Hello everyone. If you do not want to play around with the teaspoons of coffee and washing powder, try this gram weights that I came up with after playing the teaspoons for a bit. One word: I use Folger's for the fact that product quality control will PROBABLY remain constant over the years. In place of washing soda, I am using Sodium Carbonate (monohydrate)...much easier to obtain here than washing soda!

6.1 gram Folgers 9 grams Na Carbonate 30min

I use this mix in 450ml water with 35mm Pan F film (50asa)....really handles the contrast this film can have (for reasons unknown to me, 120 PanF behaves well in PMK-Pyro). Prints glow!! enjoy, Bill

Forgot where I was at! For a Minox load of PanF (ei 50)or Imagelink HQ (ei 12), divide the weights in half and use with 250ml of water (I use a ss minox reel with two pvc pipe spacers in a 250ml Nikor tank).

Agitation (of any size) is constant for the 1st minute, 30second intervals for the next 15 minutes and 1 min intervals thereafter. Water rinse and your choice of fixer. Enjoy,
