peter_schauss1
I have some Plus-X, the remainder of a 100' roll, which has an expiration date of 2/2007. If I shoot it within the next two months will I have problems with base fog or speed loss? I bought the film from B&H last fall and have stored it at room temperature since then. michaelging
I would not think you would have any problems, its not that fast of film and plus-x I have shot still looks good, even a few years out of date.
frank.schifano
No worries about that unless it was stored in extremely adverse conditions.
andre_reinders
I liked the results from some 15 year old plus X I got with an old medium format camera - I wouldn't worry.
carl_klitzke
I've used PlusX expired by at least two years and beat the hell out of it with no or so little fog I couldn't see it..
pete_andrews10
It'll be fine Peter, just use it. Theoretically, film starts to deteriorate as soon as the "ripening" process is finished at the factory, hence the use of a fairly arbitrary expiry date. In real-life, B&W film will keep "indefinitely", until the increased base fog, increase in grain size, and loss of speed make it unuseable. And what one person deems unuseable may be perfectly acceptable to someone else. Base fog can be printed through, and loss of speed can be easily compensated for. The only thing you can do nothing about is the increased grain. In any case, a couple of weeks, or even months out-of-date is going to make absolutely no difference. Film doesn't suddenly stop working at the end of the expiry date, or anything like that.
gene_e._mccluney
I have been using some 8x10 plus-x I purchased fresh in 1980. The sealed boxes are just fine, no base fog. I tried a couple of sheets from an opened box and it wasn't as good. McCluney Photo
al_kaplan1
I'm still working my way through a bunch of 20 roll "bricks" of Ilford HP5 Plus that expired a couple of years ago. I got the lot for free from a friend who'd jumped on the Digital Bandwagon. It's just fine!
discpad
If you put it on eBay, I'll snap it up! :)
