nikon lense compatibility

are all kinds of lenses are compatible on nikon d 50 body

.....i want to get a 200 lense with zoom

can any one suggest any cheap compatible lense regardless of quality

i take pics for myself and my satisfaction so quality does not bother

me much

I despise the lack of image quality from most Nikon "kit" lenses, but was somewhat surprised that the 55-200mm I bought was decent for the money. You can't use manual lenses on the D50 or you won't have AF or metering.

I picked up one of the old 35-70mm f3.3-4.5 af Nikkors for a film camera. Put it on a D100 and the sharpness was outstanding and the lens cost almost nothing. Plus it's light a very compact. Those lenses were sort of entry level in their time. On a D50 it would be about like a 50-105mm lens.
