mike_cohen6
I have a Vito B which makes a terrible squeal when I focus. The only way of avoiding it is to put some pressure away from the camera body on the focusing ring. Is it a matter of lubrication, or something else? thanks for any ideas. winfried_buechsenschuetz1
I think your assumption is correct. However, the (unit focussing) lens of the Vito B and its helicoid are a bit tricky to disassemble. Do NOT spray or drip in some oil - it may get to the shutter blades quite easily. leicaglow
Really, I would try to get a competent repair guy to do it for you.
winfried_buechsenschuetz1
I would NOT recommend anything which is based on mineral oil (like virtually all greases used by machinists and on cars), it may bleed out and outgaz. I usually use silicone based grease. There are special greases for helicoids available from Micro-Tools but they are not cheap.
