tim_doherty
I have had a D200 for about a year and last fall I started noticing while shooting a sequence that both focus point would jump around some time and using the thumbpad to move the point does not work right away. Has anyone else noticed things like this? I wonder if I should send it back to Nikon to have them take a look at it or not. Thanks Tim
mark pav
Mine doesn't do this, so yours may have a problem. What is your AF set to?
rjacksonphoto
Is the selector locked (the dot next to the L)?
leicaglow
You might check the manual. I think there is some setting to cause it to do this as it searches for a focus point.
juan_parm_nides
Or hard reset everything, take the battery out for ten minutes, and try again. Cheers.
j_falth
I experienced a similar situation, and found the camera to continually re-focus, with the slightest movement. I checked all the settings, but did not find any settings that would account for the problem. I reset everything, only to find that it would still act in an erratic focusing manner. However, after several resets, it now has settled down, and only occasionally do I have erratic focusing. I sometimes also have erratic results from the thumbpad. At first, I thought I was imagining a problem. On occasion, it fails to operate, and only turning off the camera, and turning it back on, will it work in a normal manner. steven_pye
I noticed that, I found my lock was not on and my cheek was hitting the thumbpad...to make it move immediately, press the shutter release half way.
michaelchristensen
might be simply an inability of the lens to pick up enough contast to lock focus on one of the sensors; I assume you have it set for continuous focus mode. In my case merely moving the lens to another target caused it to settle down'
