paul hart
My first results using the M8 at 1250 suggest that it is very useable. These were shot as JPEGs in B+W mode, with the Noctilux. Very little post-proccessing (in Lightroom) - slight tweaking of levels and contrast - no sharpening or noise removal at all.<p><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ paul_hart/331282932/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/ 129/331282932_14dbf30d22.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Rachel" /></a><p><a href="http:// www.flickr.com/photos/paul_hart/331724908/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http:// farm1.static.flickr.com/136/331724908_39e5817d1e.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Rachel (2)" / ></a><p><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/paul_hart/331724318/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/137/331724318_8747cd645e.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="Emma in Contemplative Mood" /></a></center>
HarryBaker
Very good pictures, Paul, especially number two. The small DOF really makes her stand out, Very pretty too! I've ordered my M8 which will probably arrive in February. Harry
squareframe
Noctilux rocks! you are making a great case for one, attached to an M8 Paul. keep posting f1.0 images.
john_spiers
Lovely shots, Paul. Very sharp. Can you remember what aperture/shutter speed you used?
stuart_richardson
They look great Paul, but is there any way we could either see them larger or see a cropped section of one of the photos? It is very difficult to judge grain/noise when the photos are this small. They have a lovely tonality to them though, and that is easy to see even at this size. paul hart
Stuart: this is a 100% crop from the first one. What do you think of it?<p><center><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/paul_hart/332175929/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/137/332175929_2413fa7229_o.jpg" width="800" height="519" alt="Noctilux - 100% crop" /></a></center>

arthuryeo
Nice shots! Let's see more images from your other Leica lenses. It's such a waste of the resolution-preserving design of the M8 mating it with a Nocti, which does not have a lot of resolution to start with. Just MHO ... paul hart
Arthur: the Noctilux is no slouch when it's stopped down. Here's one at (I think) f4, with a 100% crop.<p><center><a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/ 132/332196112_e3901f00c1_o.jpg" width="800" height="533" alt="L1000828.jpg" /></ a><p><a href=" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/143/332196152_1fcd3d09f5_o.jpg" width="800" height="458" alt="L1000828-Edit.jpg" /></a></center>
Karim Ghantous
Beautiful images, Paul. Really nice! I like the third one best. Cheers!
stuart_richardson
Paul, it looks really great! I am excited to get one. I have had one on order for awhile now, and I am expecting it in February or March. These shots make me happy, as I am a DMR user and these are way ahead of it in terms of high ISO noise. The DMR is superb at low ISO, but really has trouble over ISO 400.
karl_keung
the new 1/8000 will further expand the use of the Noct, the 0.68 viewfinder will also mean less obstructed view? nice shots.
stephen_alesch
What does this mean:" the Nocti, which does not have a lot of resolution to start with". huh? thats just wierd. does a nocti even have resolution? ??? its a analog lens not a chip. maybe i dont understand. My m8 - with a nocti has massive noise above 800 asa at long exposures - over 4 seconds. its pretty sad. i havent tried black and white - only color shots. it looks like these pics had alot of available light - try some at twilight, hand held. alan_wilder1
Judging from the sharpness, it might just be that the M8 and especially improved digital M's in the future, will better exploit sharpness of this lens because the digital sensor is optically flat while film has inherent tiny "hills and valleys" limiting sharpness wide open with the lens' razor thin DOF at f/1. With shots like these, I expect the demand for this lens to go up slightly.
