www.wesleyalmond.com
I come across many rollei hoods that are missing the Rivets that help open and close the hood smoothly. How would someone replace rivets this small? Micro tools has brass to make rivets but I see no tools. Has anyone tried this? Whats a good source of tools? Could I find something like this at a local hardware store?
nickc1
A rivet is basically a bit of wire hammered over at each end, so brass wire of the right diameter would be OK to make them - however there is a skill/art/knack in making a neat rivet, that still allows the parts to move, yet stay secure, and while I once could do it to the satisfaction of my trainer, I've just tried and lack of practise etc etc........ So I don't really know what to recommend, other than get the wire, support the parts really securely and have a go.
john falkenstine
What is the diameter of the rivet? Aircraft rivets can go as small as .10 inch on the shank diameter.
mdcarma
Hobby shop, here's an example, just search rivets. caboosehobbies.com
Rob_the_waste
I've seen solid rivets in 1/16" diameter, soft aluminum. I've seen cherry pop rivets in 3/32" diameter. I presume you are looking for brazier head rivets?
Rob_the_waste
If you have access to an air compressor, a small solid flat snap, a 2x impact gun with an air reducer and a small bucking bar should be more than sufficient. If you're out of practice, try your hand on a piece of scrap metal first.
john falkenstine
2x impact gun will more than likely damage the camera.
