jeffrey_e
I have a Canon Speedlight 199a and I use it with a Canon AE-1 Program. I am unsure as to how to set it for use as a fill flash. What does one do, for example, to set it to produce one stop less exposure than the ambient light? Any and all suggestions as to how to use this flash for fill would be most appreciated. JosvanEekelen
Last time I tried something like that with the A1/AE1 and 199A was about 20 years ago. If you set the camera on one of the auto settings it will default to 1/60 and the aperture value that has been set on the camera. Try going manual, setting aperture and shutter speed to the values indicated by a prior reading with the camers. Choose the same aperture on the 199A and set a one stop higher film speed, i.e. ISO 200 instead of 100. I think that should do the trick but since it is a long time ago I used my FD system I might be (a bit) wrong. I guess you need to do some experimenting. Succes. leicaglow
Jeffrey, I only discovered recently there is a Canon FD forum (go to Forums and look for Canon FD). There is a lot of knowledge in that forum, and you might want to ask there.
JosvanEekelen
Jeffrey is aware of the FD forum, he posted the same or a similar question a few weeks ago in the FD forum. Jeffrey: I guess it is time to give it a try. After all the proof of the pudding is in the eating. Succes, Jos.
