jason.stewart
This is another "USA vs. gray market" question. I apologize if this has been covered before, but I searched these forums and the Internet in general and did not find any discussion that was directly on point.

I am used to USA-warranty Nikkor lenses coming in a gold and black box with an image of several Nikkor lens fronts. I recently received a supposedly new, USA-warranty 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF AF-S DX in a plain gray and black box. The price was about $40 to $50 cheaper than the B&H's, Adoramas, and Amazons of the world.

So my question is, can I trust that this is in fact a USA-warranty item? Has anyone else bought a USA part in a plain gray box? Maybe this box style isn't that unusual, but the box coupled with the almost-too-good-to-be-true price has me suspicious.
SCL
Do you have an original receipt or warranty card?
john schroeder
Every 12-24mm lens that my store has recieved has been packaged in a silver and black box. If the lens came with the Nikon USA warranty card with matching SN then it has a 5 year warranty.
Jerry_
You may also e-mail Nikon USA www.nikonusa.com with the serial number. In a day or so, the folks at Nikon USA should send you a answer.
Gary Naka
my 18-70 has the letters US in the beginning of the serial number. My guess is that is the indicator of a US lens, so check that first.
User_276104
My 12-24 came in a gray/black box and it's a USA lens. You shouldn't have anything to worry about.

constance_cook
Not all USA lenses have the US in front of the serial numbers, not even the new ones. Nikon is shipping USA lenses in the box you photographed. Ask your seller for his card that came with the lens. Conni
jason.stewart
Thanks for the responses, everybody. The box did contain a warranty card with matching SN, and the serial number stamped on the lens itself does begin with "US". So, everything checks out, other than I hadn't used this seller before, hadn't seen this box style before, and had read various comments in the past along the lines of "gray market comes in plain boxes". All this conspired to make me a little paranoid, perhaps overly so. Anyway, thanks again.
ShunCheung
I bought my 12-24mm/f4 AF-S DX from K&S, which does not sell new gray-market Nikon equipment. Mine came in the same type of silver and black box as shown in your image. On one side of the box, there is a Nikon USA 5-year extended warranty logo printed on it.
