j_sew
A suggestion to PN. On some photographs, why not have a warning that thephotograph may contain some sexually eplicit content and may not be suitable forviewing by some. Maybe this would contain the controversy over what is pornversus what is art. Clearly there are some provocative and very explicitphotographs that contain some graphic intention. If there is a warning then theview enters the site on his own choice.
sprouty
Isn't the fact that it's in the "nude" catagory enough of a warning? Personally, I'd like a warning when I come across something like this: http://www.photo.net/photo/4543553
yann_r.
Yes, why not... I'd like an "oversaturated sunset" warning too.

aeaster
And I would like to see a warning about those godawful digital abortions made in vain to look like watercolor or oil paintings.

Landrum Kelly
This topic comes up so often. I am so glad that we are finally addressing it seriously. This is a truly historic thread. The simple answer, J. Sew, is that it will not work, unless you create some kind of system like that of photosig.com, but look where it got them. . . . --Lannie
tholte
A more important thing to do would be have some kind of spell-checker available, if you get my drift.
Landrum Kelly
What was I saying about Photo.sig? My apologies. Henri Cartier-Bresson lives: http://www.photosig.com/go/photos/view This type of photo should also require some kind of warning, since it is so rare: "WARNING! Quality photo!" --Lannie
pjmeade
Hello JS. I appreciate that you don't want to expose children or colleagues to nudity and that some of the photos here can be looked on as pornographic depending on where you stand on that subject. However, a warning on an image just wouldn't work. When you've seen the warning, you've seen the image. I think having a warning on the front page to say the site contains nudity would be inappropriate. As many people have pointed out in the past, nudity is a legitimate part of art that goes back over thousands of years. The price of peace of mind is eternal vigilance. Landrum Kelly
The link did work. I don't know what happened. It was of a woman carrying an umbrella stepping into a mud puddle, reminiscent of one of HCB's most famous. --Lannie

kevinconroyfarrell
A warning on a photograph would stigmatize it. And who gets to decide which photographs should be marked with the scarlet letter? And on what grounds? A warning system carries connotations that go beyond its purported purpose. It is naive to suggest that a warning on a photograph would merely announce its content. There is a tacit implication of community disapproval. A warning does not merely describe an image, it also evaluates it. Speaking of warnings and George Bush, has anyone noticed we have not been getting any terror alert warnings since the elections? What happened to the orange alerts and yellow alerts? Is al-Qaeda on sabbatical?
aeaster
Kevin, is it at all possible that the US military is doing its job and al-Qaeda is getting the shit stomped out of it? Could it be that the Islamofascists are being turned into grease spots long before they have a chance to collect their 72 virgins on American soil? Dubyah may not be half the man his dad was, but all of you who are championing Lady MacBeth for president had better be careful of what you wish for.
