sgpix
Hi - I am exchanging a Dell 19" Ultrasharp monitor as it has a terrible red/green colour casting top/bottom on it, even when viewed directly centrally. I have tried two units and they are both as bad as each other (both were corrected with a Spyder). Dell have agreed to refund me (or they might upgrade me, as I believe some other Dell units are actually LG inside and do not suffer the same problem?) If I do get refunded and go the non-Dell route, can anyone recommend a 19-20" flatpanel that will do the job well? I guess I'm going to be spending between ᆪ250 and ᆪ350 (c. $400-$550)... I don't need speakers onboard or anything - just great visuals (and a USB hub included is handy, but not essential). Thanks!Simon
leicaglow
I bought a 20" Viewsonic LCD that I really like. I bought a color calibration system for it and still like the factory settings better than the color meter settings. I paid just over 300 USD. It does have decent speakers and great set of connectors for digital signal communication.
madwand
Current Dells (xx07) models have widely-reported banding issues, so should be avoided until this issue is fixed.<br><br> The Viewsonic VX2025WM is a tolerable 20" widescreen with a 8-bit P-MVA panel which can typically be found for a bit more than $300 USD (sometimes less).<br><br> <a href="http://www.lesnumeriques.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=52&mo1=95&p1=969&ma2=41&mo2=102&p2=1025&ph=7">http://www.lesnumeriques.com/duels.php?ty=6&ma1=52&mo1=95&p1=969&ma2=41&mo2=102&p2=1025&ph=7</a><br><br> <a href="http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/search_getprod.php?masterid=17378290&search=vx2025wm">http://www.pricegrabber.co.uk/search_getprod.php?masterid=17378290&search=vx2025wm</a><br><br> <a href="http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/03/30/20_inch_widescreen_monitors/1.html">http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/03/30/20_inch_widescreen_monitors/1.html</a><br><br> The following reviewer prefers a Philips (uncalibrated):<br><br> <a href="http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/86256/viewsonic-vx2025wm.html">http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/86256/viewsonic-vx2025wm.html</a><br><br> The "X" might stand for the backlight pattern which is visible in the dark:<br><br> <a href="http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?page=6407&head=0">http://www.trustedreviews.com/article.aspx?page=6407&head=0</a><br><br> Good hunting! keith_kanoun
I've been very happy with my Dell 2001FP (20", non-widescreen). It seems to be gone from their web site (replaced by the 2007FP) but perhaps they still have some left.

robert_brake1
Viewsonic has another level of monitors that are worth looking at. The 19" VP930B is in the 450 (online) -600 (small retailers) range (US$). It is extremely well reviewed for graphic arts work, 1000:1 contrast, very high viewing angle etc. It's at the top of my list. The only problem for me is getting to see one in hand. A monitor is something I just can't buy sight unseen and being geared toward GA professionals instead of gamers the VP930B just isn't stocked by the typical computer store.
