ray .
Rene's in Maine. It's winter. People have rosy cheeks when they've been out in the cold.
Maybe she wore that coat to stay warm in the dairy section. I live in California and if I go into my local Ralph's supermarket I freeze my ass off. In fact they keep it so cold in that store I never feel like staying more than 10 minutes. ;)
EricM
"Use the middle eye dropper on the "Curves" control panel. Find something grey to click it on." use all three eye droppers, in this order, the right gets clicked on your highest highlight, then the left gets clicked on your darkest dark, then the middle last gets sampled around where you fancy the results. But, values have to be added into curves preset first in order for best results. If anyone wants them, i'll go dig them out.
Brad_
What Jamie said... Except I use the middle eyedropper in levels. The gray I sampled was in the jacket's zipper pull.

www.citysnaps.net
Brad_
Of course in the end, only Rene will know for sure. Look at the all the different jacket colors in each of the edits. Which one is closest? www.citysnaps.net

EricM
I, Brad and Jamie all uploaded the same file with the same border, intresting to look at the borders against the web page white.
ray .
Check the highlights on her cheeks where there's no ruddiness. Maybe that's a good place to judge if the skin color feels right or if it's tinted too far one way or another.

michael s.
Quick question: Is your wife aware, Rene, of how you and your photo-buddies are spending this evening ? :) I guess on balance it's a comparatively innocuous thing. As one of my teachers used to say: "Don't drink; don't smoke; don't chew ... or go with girls who do."
ray .
Uh, your teacher didn't say anything about going with girls who shop?
duane hartse
Rene, this is tangential to your question, but do you feel funny or get funny looks snapping a picture of your wife at the grocery store? The reason I ask is that I sometimes snap a picture or two of my young daughter at the store, but I always feel a little self-conscious about it. brambor
Sorry. I was summoned to bed and had to turn off the pc. Stop. From this phone I can't judge your samples. Stop. Will reconvene tomorrow. Stop. Shooting in supermarket is fine. Stop. Will talk tomorrow. Stop. Back to bed. Stop.

eliot_rosen1
It's hard to know what the correct color balance should be without actually seeing the person. Skin coloration is so variable that you would have to be able to match the image to what you see.

michael_kastner
Rene, your wife is beautiful, and extremely patient... letting so many people take a picture of her. My wife often won't let me even take one picture of her (my wife). paulmoore
rene, bob's and eric's were close on my screen - here is my version.. used hue/sat and color balance mostly to get the yellow cast out.. then went to curves to fix contrast.

brambor
sorry I had to bail out last night. How about this version?
brambor
I think it can probably benefit from a little more sharpening and it is somewhat darker in color but on the subsequent modifications from you guys the skin got a lot coarser.
