"Follow the Leader" nature of w/nw treads...

I've got to say that I really love when a random w/nw post leads to a

game of follow-the-leader, with each image picking up on an element

of the one(s) before. It's one thing when the thread has a title,

like Men with Hats, to expect that you'll see the theme throughout,

but there's an example of what I'm talking about in the recent wnw***

thread (if someone could link to it here that might help the

discussion), the way that M, OCT 13, 2005; 10:32 a.m. is echoed by

Stuart K., OCT 13, 2005; 12:20 p.m.; John Mac, OCT 13, 2005; 01:37

p.m.; etc.

Sometimes I notice that it's not one thing that connects all of the

images, it can be that three posts containing a similar subject will

then lead to one with a similar quality of light or geometric element

or something, and then the subject matter can take off in another

direction while still being linked to the start.

And although I like some of the non-related images, I would suggest

that once a game like this emerges, one should try to play along and

save images that don't really fit for another thread. In the wnw***

thread I guess one could argue that Travis, OCT 14, 2005; 04:16 a.m.

(which I really like) sort of follows the leader (what goes in one

end comes out the other), but that's a stretch. There are one or two

others that stand out as misfits in the thread to my eye...

Anyway, I've just been enjoying this aspect of the w/nw posts over

the years and wanted to encourage people to think that way when

posting to the "random" (no theme in the title or not obviously a pic

of the week where things won't be related) w/nw threads.

Cheers-

Mike

Good thoughts, Mike. W/NW is like a lot of spontaneous gatherings and interactions. It

reminds me a jazz jam session where everyone improvises with everyone else. It is also like

a round robin stories telling session. Invariably, someone says, "And then I woke up" and

the whole cycle begins anew.

I agree but I really feel left out since I can't post images. I'm seriously thinking of getting a new computer so then maybe I'll be able to do this. The few times I needed help with an issue like exposure I'd go to a friends house and have him upload an example image but it seems only to appear as a link. Pretty poor quality too. I'm amazed at how large and sharp the images posted here are. I don't know why my friend couldn't do the same with mine. In due time I hope to be able to contribute more to this forum.
