todd_k.
Is any one using a lightsphere on a potato masher style flash? If so, what model flash/lightsphere combo are you using?
ellis_vener_photography
You'll be better off with a Chimera Mini or Maxi softbox instead of a small plastic cup.
picturesque
Lightspheres don't fit potato mashers unless you cut them up and use tape. Look at the measurements of the LS units on Gary Fong's site. None are big enough to fit the reflectors of potato mashers. I heard of one guy that used clear plastic auto floor mats to make one. You can get similar light by using the Flip It in the card back position.
chris m., central florida
I've been getting very similar results with a plastic Stofen softbox on my Sunpak 555 flash units pointed straight up for about two years now. Works for me, much more portable, very soft lighting. I'm now using Vivitar 285 units with the same effect. The light has a tiny bit more of a hard edge to it than using a LS attachment, but frankly, I've never been a fan of ultra soft contrast images so it doesn't bother me. bdp
As ridiculous as it sounds, get a small (quart) plastic milk container and use that. You'll look weird, but it works if you mold it.
