toddlaffler
Can someone recommend a good wedding photography book? Is there a definitive stand out? I'm looking for both technique, and the marketing/business side as well. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks Todd
stnoonan
Hi Todd,
I like Wedding Photography: Art, Business, and Style. It is the closest thing to a good all-in-one I've seen. I'll be interested to hear what other readers have found.
Good luck!
Sean
www.stnphotography.com
david_schilling___chicago_
I like Steve Sint's book as well and also thought that Patrick Rice's book "Professional Digital Imaging for Wedding & Portrait Photographers" was worthwhile. jon jacobson
I like the Bambi Cantrell books for pure wedding photographic inspiration. Another book I like, pertaining to the business side of things, is Vik Orenstein's Building your Photography Business.
Orenstein is a studio portrait photographer, and her book needs a little translation for wedding photography. rich_dutchman1
"The Lucrative Photographer" by Till(?) is focused on the business side only, but a good place to start. I don't think one book could handle technique, style and business without being too broad.
KenPapai
The Sint and Cantrell books mentioned above seem to be the best (or most popular). I find them EXCELLENT.
djphoto
I've read many books on the subject of wedding photography, but the one that has influenced me most is "Modern Wedding Photography" by Suzanne Szasz. An outstanding photojournalist for many nationalmagazines from the 40s through the 70s, she was actually the mother of wedding photojournalism and predated Denis Reggie by quite a few years. Her book was published in 1976 or '77, but many of the photographs in were made in the 60s. Reggie, whom I respect greatly, is widely thought to be the father of wedding PJ (a conception he has helped propagate), but he was in fact the popularizer of the genre, not the father of it. Contrary to biology, wedding photojournalism had only a mother, no father. Except for clothing and hair styles, Szasz's work looks as fresh as anything being done today. In fact, if contemporary wedding photographers would like to see the originals of many shots which have become wedding photojournalism cliches, I recommend picking up a copy of "Modern Wedding Photography." It is readily available from used book sources such as abebooks.com.
