paul_chan4
The recent threads on MP3 set me wondering on some possible
situation.
1. You can afford and want it, so it's a buy.
2. You can afford but do not need nor want it, so it's a pass.
3. You can afford but what a waste, another pass.
4. You can't afford so it makes no difference whether you want or need it, a no go.

Where do you fit in? Let's open the can of worms. charles_stobbs3
I must have been absent that day. Is an MP3 a music storage device also useable for storing digital images?
Jerry_
Would the release of the MP3 body make the 'stealth' MP2 model Leica more valuable?
bob haight
I would like to borrow one, perhaps?
ben z
How about: 5. You buy cameras to take pictures, recognize the MP3 (or MP for that matter)have no monumental advantages in that regard over a <$1000 used M6, so it doesn't matter whether you can afford it or not, you have no interest in it whatsoever but are happy for those who do. jtk
Ben, your #5 doesn't apply to many Leica owners as much as do 1-4. Matter of fact, your #5 explains my IIIC and Canon Ps: I'd rather spend money on film, scanner, printer, paper, pigment than on luxury items. damir_fajdetic
Ben, who said anything about taking pictures? I believe that such cameras are not made to leave their luxurious presentation boxes and to be used (especially not outdoors!). Sometimes I wonder why (and do they at all) put the shutter in such cameras. As the matter of fact, they should glue or bolt the camera down so that it doesn't fall out if you tip the case... :-)
feli
I hope they find 400-500 suckers, eh customers to sell these to. 500 x $10,000 = $5 million. Leica needs the cash to develop a digital M.
jim_jeblee
Well this camera has all of the features I would like the most on my M except the removable take up spool. I would like an M2 w/ built in meter because I can see how close to the end of the roll I am in the dark with out my glasses, the spool is easier to load in the dark, & I really like the M2 frames. I do a fair amount of stage pics. But as a friend pointed out if I'd just shoot a lot more I'd not need the meter. My new darkroom will be done in a month or so and I'll just buy a lot of film instead, but it doesn't hurt to drool a little over a nice camera. Just my thoughts, Jim. jtk
Paul Chan...are you the Paul Chan that was staff photographer for Bank of America in San Francisco (and had doubts about his then-new M5?). If so, maybe you remember Media Generalists?
Rob F.
#2 and #3 for me.
socke
Ben Zs choice #5 :-) A M6 sans TTL is just what I want, a 35 and 50 'lux and ticket to the carnival in Salvador de Bahia. I'll go to the carnival anyways, but most probably with two of the cameras I already have ;-)
frederick_muller
It's a waste. I'd love to own that lens, but I can't see spending maybe 2 grand on a scalloped focusing ring.
larry_cole1
I personally always found it strange people cried about the mp price. It is as tough as any camera out there, and reliable(with exceptions and lemons im sure). But that price increase is crazy. It should be the same as the mp. My m6ttl new was 1700, my mp new was 2500 new. I can tell the difference in the build slightly. I never had any problems with my m6ttl though, and I used it professionally for years. The mp is great too. That mp3 looks cool, i'd love one, but only if I get rich.

alan_wilder1
How about #6: You can afford it, don't really need it, but justify the purchase as a way to keep Leica solvent.
ben z
Maybe you're on to something. I wonder if Leica could qualify as a charity under IRS code, that way everyone could take a deduction for buying any Leica product.
dan d. chang
Why buy MP3? what is the advantages? decoration? fine, I would like to a dollar bill made jacket, it looks cool on the street then a MP3

larry_cole1
That mp3 hateing sounds deep and personal. Its just an expensive mechanical camera. No big deal. The price is crazy though, unless you are rich.
