EN-EL3 battery recall (some batches overheat)

Well, the good news is it looks like the D200's EN-EL3e is indeed compatible with the D70.

Your EN-EL3 battery pack will be replaced free of charge within approximately 7-10 days of our receipt with a new EN-EL3a or EN-EL3e battery pack. The EN-EL3a and the EN-EL3e may be freely substituted for the EN-EL3 in all cases.

Well, I can't say I'm too happy about this. My battery is on the list. It will take 7-10

business days after they have recieved my defective battery before I see a new one. Nikon

says they have only had 4 cases worldwide of the battery shorting and melting, so I'm

thinking I might just take my chances.

The Nikon web site only offers directions for a mail-in swap. Does anyone know if there is

or might be another way of getting this taken care of?

Thanks.

"One of mine is also on the list, but I live in Chile, so how am I going to get a replacement (I can't even fill out the request form, since you need to put in a state)?"

Martin,

Try Nikon in Argentina, they handle Chile, Uraguay, Chile, Peru and Bolivia.
