rjacksonphoto
Does anyone know if the LCD screen can be turned off on the Canon SD-20? I realize it has no optical viewfinder but would like to use it for hip shots and would like to not have the LCD lit up. Can't find one in a store around here to check and not noted in any specs I've checked. Thanks.
steve_brantley2
Turn on camera, then select Menu, Review Time, Off
rjacksonphoto
Thanks, Steve, but that only deals with the review function, not with the real time image. I'd like it to be off when shooting. I don't think this is possible.
madhu1
What Steve suggested will do what you want. Try it.
madhu1
Unless Steve mistook the SD-20 for the 20D.....as I did.....jeeez.
jake_cole
Not that I can find. I tried Review OFF and it definetly does not work. LCD Brightness and minimum does not work. If anyone has any other ideas. This might be useful, but I would not want to be getting my picture taken without knowing it.
rjacksonphoto
Thanks, Jake. The idea of having my photo taken in a public place without my knowledge doesn't bother me. In a private place, of course, is a different matter.

phule
B.t.w the user manual (which you can download from the canon website) says you can set the LCD display to turn off after 10 seconds "when no camera operation has been performed." Out of the box that's probably the best solution. Frame the shot from the hip, as soon as you hit the shutter button it'll light up the LCD for 10 seconds. Hold it against your leg for those 10 seconds and you should be good to go.
rjacksonphoto
Rob Yeah, I figured the old school approach would be best. I got a look at a user's manual but missed the part about shutting off after ten seconds, which would help and certainly would help with the power conservation aspect. Thanks to all.
