Has anyone submitted to Lonely Planet Images Stock Library? Or other libraries?

I was checking their stock library, and their conditions don't look great (for the photographer). Basically, and if I understood it correctly, they want 5 years of exclusivity. What they are saying is: send us your best 500 photos, and we will try to sell them during the next five years, at the same time that we try to sell the other 150,000 photos in stock. By the way, you cannot use them anywhere else ...

Is this how most stock agencies work?

Cheers,

Nacho

It seems very risky to me to send your best 500 photos to Lonely Planet, and hope that they will sell them well during the next 5 years. What if they don't? You can do nothing with them.

Your approach seems better to me. Congratulations for your Web page and your photos.

Have you had personal experience giving your photos to stock agencies (for travel photos)?

Cheers,

Nacho

In travel photography, one should be able to accumulate fairly quickly many times more than 500 good photos. It's not like those elaborate studio shots that take most of a day.

When I was starting, I placed images with a small specialist agency. It is a nice relationship, and it got me some credits I wouln't have had otherwise, but nowadays, the financial return is kind of unsignificant compared to my own licensing.
