I am looking to buy a new tripod.

 

Any ideas what this tripod is from the site's picture on Luminous

It is a Gitzo CF tripod with a G-1321 Leveling Head. That make's it a G-13xx or larger. My best guess is that it is a model G-1325 - the legs look a little small for a G-1548, although it could be a 4-section G-1348.

Hi David, if you own a 500mm or a 600mm f 4.0, get a Gitzo tripod with the Wimberley head and a Gitzo 1321 level base. Wimberley is about to announce a new version of the Wimberley head. It is supposed to be lighter than the current model. Which Gitzo to get is a function of how tall you are and how much money you can afford and how far you will have to carry it. The 1300 series is fine for a 500mm. The 1400 series is recommended for a 600mm. Joe smith

I use a 400 F2.8 (about 6kg).

M.R. uses a Gitzo 1348 tripod (any of thw Gitzo 13xx tripods will do)and an Arca-Swiss B!

Monoball. You could replace the B1 Monoball with a full Wimberley head for the times

when you are exclusively using the 400mm f/2.8.
