Buying photoshop: NIB old version + NIB upgrade - is this legit?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed sites that sell "New in Box" "retail" versions of

Photoshop CS2 for nearly half price. What they are doing is selling

NIB retail versions of an old version of PS (e.g. PS6 or PS7) plus a

NIB retail version of the upgrade to CS2. These sites swear it is

fully registerable with Adobe for support and future upgrades. One

site even "guarantees" authenticity with a "certificate of

authenticity" -- is this legit? Is it really a question of saving

money by running install twice??

Has anyone bought software this way - and was it a good or bad

experience?

Thanks in advance of any input!

That's how I did it. Bought a new PS 5 + a PS 7 upgrade from someone on eBay. Worked as advertised. If you go this route via eBay I suggest you check the seller's feedback and their previous auctions. The person I bought mine from had done several of these deals and all of his previous customers stated everything worked as advertised.

I don't have CS 2, but from my experience with CS you do need the actual CD for the lower version you are upgrading. If you don't have the old version already installed, you shouldn't need to install it first before upgrading; all the upgrades I've used recently have a complete copy of the software on the disk, but they specifically require during the install process that you insert your old version disk when asked to during the install.

I am considering getting the new CS2.

Can you install from a duplicate disk, or do you need the original disks? (I tend to make backups of my original disks and keep them tucked far-far-away along with critical backups.) I presume the funky activation scheme is all the piracy protection installed?
