everheul
My local photo lab has been using Agfa Prestige paper. I have liked the look of this paper with Fuji and Kodak films, as well as digital media. With the demise of Agfa, my local lab will be changing over to Fuji products. In the past, I've tried Kodak portra printed on fuji paper and didn't like the results while my shots from Reala looked fine on the fuji paper. Is there a Fuji paper that has similar characteristics to Agfa prestige? ie prints both fuji and kodak films equally well, and is not overly saturated and contrasty. mark_man
The loss of Agfa Prestige is a sad result of Agfa's demise. This paper is/was superb for NPH and also Reala. Fuji Crystal Archive is unfortunately not at all similar, although I do like its saturation with Fuji films. In my limited experience Kodak films look OK on CA as well, although the reverse is not true.
r.t. dowling
I think you'll find that Kodak Portra paper is more similar to Prestige than Crystal Archive is. But finding a lab that prints on Portra may prove even more difficult. Kodak Royal paper might be to your liking, and it's a bit more common than Portra. bill_tuthill
It's "interesting" that your lab is switching to Fuji, not Kodak. You can get prints made on Kodak Portra from the online lab MPIX.com, but you might have to send scans, I dunno. Prestige and Sensatis (the digital replacement) were in between Portra and Supra/Royal in contrast and saturation, it seemed.
scott_eaton
Agfa can do us a favor and keep killing off their papers. While I liked Agfa professional papers and prestige for portrait work from films like NPH and Reala, the papers had serious stability issues and cruddy color saturation. Seeing 5yr old RA4 prints from Agfa Professional start to fade really causes me to loose some respect for Agfa corp. Kodak Endura Portra is a good substitute for Prestige, although neither paper seems to know how to reproduce the color red.
bill_tuthill
If you believe Wilhelm, a recent iteration of Agfa Sensatis paper should last 20 years with < 1% fading under fluorescent light.
scott_eaton
Fuji's been making standard RA-4 papers with those specs or better for over a decade. Doesn't say much for Agfa.
everheul
Thanks for the response guys. I'll use a lab that uses the Kodak portra whenever I shoot with NC.
