eyadnalsamman
I had scratched the Matte Focusing Screen of my Pentax ME while I was doing some deep cleaning. I did not know that it is so sensitive to scratches and it can be scratched easily. I am really afraid and depressed that it mas cause problems for the quality of my coming photos. I do not know if I can replace it or clean the scratches that make the view through the finder not clear. Thanks for any ways to get rid of that problem and your recommendations and precautions will be appreciated.
alan_chan4
It won't affect the image quality, but the damage is done and nothing can be done except have the professional to replace it for you because it will involve major disassembling and calibration. However, "clean" screen can only be obtain from other old cameras and the labour is likely more expensive than another used ME.
etan_lightstone
since it wont affect your final image at all... I wouldn't worry about it. unless it really interferes with your ability to frame and focus a shot
Jochen_S
If you feel able to change the screen by yourself, get some defective ME for a song and do it. I hated some scratch on a LX screen a lot. Although I don't hesitate to spread motorbike engines all over my kitchen table I avoid camera repairs because I drink by far too much coffee to have watchmakers hands. YMMV... OTOH attempting to remove the screen from the spare part collection will tell you where your personal limits are.
