stemked
Hello All. It looks like I need to replace my ZX-7. I could get the camera fixed, but the price of a good-used one almost matches what it costs to fix it and my camera has been through a lot. I've doing a lot of bird photography with the Snap-focus feature on this camera and a MZ-S and its been working well. I like having the IR remote of the ZX-7 (which I use for family photos), otherwise I'd replace it with a ZX-5N. That said the logical cameras to replace this camera are another ZX-7/MZ-7 or the ZX-L/MZ-6. For the most part I like the spotmeter and preview in the ZX-L, however I have the Cable release F which apparently doesn't work in the ZX-L. Looking at a photo with the ZX-L it looks like it will accept a good-old standard shutter release (?) or Pentax's fancy cable-release CS205. The CS205 is expensive, but if the ZX-L/MZ-6 accepts a standard cable release I would get that camera in a second so I can use my long bulb remotes. Does anyone know if the camera does actually accept the standard screw in remotes? Thanks. Doug
unca mikey
I don't know about the screw-in remote, but the ZX-L uses the same CS205 as my *ist 35mm. Rather than pay Pentax's enormous price for one of those, I got a no-name version on ebay for about $10. Works fine.
stemked
Hmmm. Food for thought. Unca, does the cheap ebay version have a lock mechanism on it?
unca mikey
Yes, the non-Pentax version I bought on ebay has a lock. Do a search on 'cs-205' and you'll find several versions.
