shadowcatcher
Dear All, I have just bought a canon 5D and consequently sold my beloved 10- 22mm EF-s lens (which was great). I just loved the ultra wide-angle shots I got at 10mm on my canon 20d. I now need to replace it and have been told I should think about one of these three lenses. Canon EF 17-40mm F4 L LENS Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG ASPHERICAL All are similar prices and so suggestions would be most appreciated. With very best wishes, Kev
pto189
Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM cannot be used with a full frame DSLR. It has been designed for smaller 1.6x sensor. Canon EF 17-40mm F/4L and Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG ASPHERICAL. However, the Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 EX DG has no front thread for filters. I would suggest the Canon 17-40 f/4L or better yet the Canon 16-35 f/2.8L.
KenPapai
I wonder who told you that Dr. K? In any case get a top notch wide zoom lens for your 5D and the only top wide angle choice to fit that bill is the 16-35 2.8L. It's a lens you will never experience buyer's remorse. michael_ziegler2
I am very satisfied with my 16-35 f/2.8 which I use with my 5D. I just bought a Fisheye 15mm f/2.8 and find it to be a really fun lens with the 5D. I plan to use it mostly for shots of European piazzas, as Im doing a trip to Italy next month. fourfa
For the equivalent field of view as your 10-22, keep it to the 16mm-40mm range. The Sigma 12-24 is an extraordinary lens on full frame - equivalent to 7.5mm-15mm on your 20D. That is literally as wide as it gets at the present time, without going to fisheye, and has its own creative challenges. Truth be told I haven't yet seen a lot of pictures at 12mm full-frame that are more than novelties, whereas a 17-40 or 16-35 is a more general purpose tool. You can add the Tamron 17-35 to your list to look at.
marknagel
I have the 16-35L and the 10-22EF-s. I am very pleased with my 16-35. Its the same Focal range as the 10-22 on a FF camera and its faster and sharper. Since you are a Doctor, I'll just assume its in your price range:) Comparisons between the 16-35L and 10-22EFs http://www.nagelhome.com/10-22%20vs%2016-35%2022mm.jpg http://www.nagelhome.com/10-22%20vs%2016-35%2016mm.jpg Mark
