mhahn
The first couple of pictures I posted on Photo Net got approximately a few thousand views, but the latest ones only 50 or 100. Are the newer pictures really that much more boring, or are the number of views not being recorded correctly? Just curious is all. [by the way, I only found this forum by clicking on a message in the "unified" view. Otherwise I wouldn't know that it exists.]
alexb_paris
yes I think there was a "technical problem" for a week or so the numbers of views stayed at 0 for all that period of time. Now I think it is working again but maybe the site is still experiencing some problems.. dunno, maybe someone from admin could clarify the situation :)
jsc
When I updated the view counting system, I found the old counter had been counting every view, including thumbnail views from gallery pages. The original intent was to count only medium and large size views, so I changed it to do that. The new way of counting should be more useful to see which photos attracted actual clicks, if not quite as gratifying to the ego.
mhahn
Am I the only one who has noticed that the number of views has decreased dramatically? Perhaps I have the biggest ego on Photo Net (or the least viewed photos)--or both.
davidmccracken
Martin, If you read Jin's answer, you will understand. It is explained perfectly.
mhahn
I understand what Jin is saying. Am only surprised that others didn't notice that the number of views had declined dramatically (it's just an assumption that they didn't notice, of course). Personally, I did think it was fun to see views in the thousands (I'm sure for many people it's no big deal), even they weren't "real" views. bobatkins
Maybe we should just multiply the number of views by 1000 and call them milliviews?
raywei
Martin, I am glad you posted the question. Yes, I only asked privately. Technical question, how does slide show count? Well, I am not asking because of a big ego, I ask because the counts actually tell me which photo of mine grabs eyeballs. Yes, I do have over 25 million views and I found out that difference of a batched photos in view count is as helpful as the comments. Ray
aepelbacher
I also have a related question. When someone views an image in the rate recent queue, will it be counted as a view? Or do they actually have to click from the queue to view the actual page where the image resides?
jsc
Images in the rate recent queue are shown at medium size, so will count towards image views.
